Sarawak, June 23rd, 2025: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak, the central regional division of Malaysia’s state broadcast network, has chosen DHD audio mixing consoles and digital signal processing cores in a major upgrade to its studios in the city of Kuching. System design, installation and commissioning were coordinated by Stagetec Asia.

RTM began as Radio Malaya in April 1946 and was renamed Radio Malaysia in 1963 with the formation of Malaysia. December the same year saw the establishment of Televisyen Malaysia. Radio Malaysia and Televisyen Malaysia merged in 1969. RTM currently operates six HD television channels and 34 radio stations nationwide. A pivotal arm of the network’s extensive regional operations, RTM Sarawak delivers information, education and entertainment in Malay, Melanau, English and Chinese, mirroring the region’s linguistic plurality. Wai FM Iban and Wai FM Bidayuh underscore the network’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural representation.

“A key part of the RTM Sarawak project was the integration of six DHD SX2 modular consoles plus primary and auxiliary XC2 cores,” comments Yap Wei Keong, Stagetec Asia Senior Project Manager. “The consoles are assigned to RedFM, Wai FM Iban, Sarawak FM and Wai FM Bidayuh, a VIP talk studio and a standby live-presentation studio. Each SX2 is equipped with motorised faders plus an integral control and monitoring panel, optimised through 10.1-inch multitouch displays. Signal processing and routing for the consoles is performed by the XC2 cores which also provide analog and AES/EBU digital connectivity as well as Dante/AES67 audio-over-IP. The XC2 cores are highly reliable, easy to control, compact and silent in operation.”

“RTM’s trust and satisfaction in its partnership with Stagetec Asia are grounded in a robust collaboration initiated in 2005, a bond further highlighted by the recent undertaking of an extensive broadcast project at Angkasapuri Kota Media,” adds Advon Tan, Stagec Asia Managing Director. “Our track record in executing complex audio infrastructure projects was instrumental in securing this latest project which equips RTM Sarawak for highly efficient broadcast production, combining operational versatility with high signal quality. All devices within the DHD network connect via IP, ensuring full communication throughout the system and keeping cabling to a minimum. The consoles are integrated with Zenon Media radio automation which enables bidirectional content transfer between RTM Sarawak and other regional stations. Additional third-party equipment includes products from AVT, Focusrite, RTW, Sonifex, Telos and Yellowtec.”

Each DHD SX2 console is based on a four-fader central module which gives access to the most important audio inputs and outputs. A microphone input and headphone output are included and loudspeakers can be connected directly to this unit. SX2 consoles can be expanded beyond four channels by adding one or more modules with six motorised faders each. This allows the integration of up to 22 faders. Central and fader modules each incorporate a 10.1 inch multitouch display showing relevant configuration and operating parameters, enabling operators to see exactly how their console is performing both from connectivity and signal level perspectives. SX2 features can be extended simply by adding optional license codes to the DSP core, allowing extra faders, busses and clean feeds. Functions such as loudness metering and talkback to other DHD mixers are also supported.
